Prom Night 2009

Madison prom 2 040409 LR Prom night is, of course, a huge deal. We saw Taylor through FOUR prom nights, and last night was Madison's second big evening out on the town. On top of the usual trappings that come with prom, Madison was the student coordinator for this year's even. So, prom has been a big topic around our household for several weeks.

Taylor, the consumate prom veteran, helped Madison with her make-up in the afternoon. Madison was escorted to prom by her boyfriend, Greg, who showed up for pictures at our house in the afternoon. Madison looked absolutely gorgeous. I think she was excited about the evening (but also that the entire event would finally be over). She and Greg joined several other couples in a progressive dinner prior to arriving at the dance just after nine o'clock.

Wendy and I had decided to volunteer this year, but weren't sure what we were going to do to pitch in. Our friendly exterminator, Jim, happened by for his regular treatment of the house this week and asked if we'd help park cars as part of the parent's volunteer valet service. So, Wendy and I found ourselves at the Opera House last night in the cold wind and, eventually, rain.

Time actually flew and we enjoyed seeing all of the kids dressed up and having a good time. Wendy and one of the other moms took up door duty, opening the Opera House doors for the kids as they arrived. I parked cars, which was actually kind of fun. Most of the vehicles were either your typical teen-mobile (used, high miles, kind of trashed inside inside) or the family car (pick-ups, SUVs, mini-vans). I did get to drive a sweet BMW and a '78 Camaro that I would have enjoyed taking out on an empty road somwhere.

Just after midnight the cars had all been returned to their owners, the kids were off to "after-prom," and Wendy and I were off to bed. Another prom down. For Madison, it's one more to go!
