Here’s how we can be sure that we know God in the right way: Keep his commandments. I John 2:2-3 (TM)

Notice the series of events. Keeping the commands is not the way to meet God, but the result of knowing God. Keeping the law does not make you acceptable to God, but having met God – having been made acceptable through Jesus death and resurrection – we are motivated to obedience.
