I’m in Billings, Montana this week mentoring supervisors in a call center. As part of the duties of a supervisor, they are supposed to analyze calls and then coach the members on their team how to improve. So I’m spending time observing them and providing them with feedback and suggestions to be more effective call coaches.
On Monday afternoon I was approaching the cubicle of one of the supervisors and I hear her ranting to another supervisor in an aggravated tone…
"I need to talk to Mary, but I can’t because she’s with THAT DUMB GUY!"
With that I turned the corner and the supervisor she was ranting to laughs and says…"you mean THIS dumb guy?!"
You should have seen the poor woman turn a million shades of red as she stuttered and stammered and tried to apologize. I just laughed. I’ve been called much worse. Word of the incident spread like wildfire throughout the call center.
Yesterday, when I arrived at the call center I put on a name tag that said, "Hello, my name is…That Dumb Guy".
