Madame Director

I had fun watching Wendy at the 2nd night of auditions for The Christmas Post. She is so adorable as she watches the different actors reading on stage. She is fully engaged and you see it in her face, her gestures, her eyes. The task of directing a show can seem so monumental. There are so many things to do, people to manage, and tasks to oversee. Nevertheless, Wendy has the ‘right-stuff’ to do it and do it well. And, when I see the spark in her eye standing there at the make-shift director’s desk – I know God has her right where she’s supposed to be.

Chapter-a-Day I Samuel 19

"But then a black mood from God settled over Saul and took control of him…As [Saul] headed out for Naioth in Ramah, the Spirit of God was on him, too." I Samuel 19:9a & 23a. (TM)

Saul is an interesting study in God’s sovereignty. The king was at the very least temperamental and in the extreme he may have had some serious bi-polar issues. The guy was all over the map and a "crazy-maker" to everyone around him. And yet, the scripture points out that God was at work in the midst of Saul’s mood swings – in one chapter moving from homicidal darkness to spiritual ecstasy. I try to remember when dealing with very difficult people, that God is at work in their life and in my life and at the intersection of our lives.

Taylor to the Mission Field

Taylor0706lr
Taylor has applied to go on a mission to Costa Rica over her Christmas break this year. Inspired by Madison’s faith and her stories from Thailand, Taylor wants to experience the mission field first hand. She just turned in her application and there’s much to do. More news to come. Pray for her and us as we prepare to send another child out into the world! 🙂

Chapter-a-Day I Samuel 18

Whatever Saul gave David to do, he did it—and did it well. I Samuel 18:5a (TM)

There is something to be said from doing your job – no matter the task, and doing it well. It reminds me of Jesus’ parable of the faithful stewards. "You have been faithful with a little, I will put you in charge of much," the master said in the story. When we do well in the "little things", we prove to others that we are capable of more.

Christmas Post Productions Begins

Wendyauditions2lr
Wendy directed her first audition for Union Street Player’s holiday production The Christmas Post last week. She directed the show five years ago at Third Reformed Church and is reprising her directing role for Pella’s Community Theater. We had a decent turn out for the first night’s audition. There will be three more auditions this week.

btw: Wendy had surgery to correct a deviated septum last Thursday. It’s been a long, uncomfortable holiday weekend for her. Pray that she gets feeling better before diving back into work and auditions tomorrow!

Chapter-a-Day I Samuel 17

Eliab, his older brother, heard David fraternizing with the men and
lost his temper: "What are you doing here! Why aren’t you minding your
own business, tending that scrawny flock of sheep? I know what you’re
up to. You’ve come down here to see the sights, hoping for a ringside
seat at a bloody battle!"
I Samuel 17:28 (TM)

There are always naysayers, critics and censors. Whether it’s a big brother, a parent, a coach, a teacher – those voices get ingrained in our heads.

  • "You can’t do it"
  • "You’re too ________" (fill in the blank)
  • "You’re not ________ enough" (fill in the blank)

David had it too. We all do. The question is what we do with the voices. David decided not to listen. He didn’t buy his brother’s line. He chose to believe what God said about him. With that faith, David killed the giant.

Who do you believe?
