Chapter-a-Day Psalm 59

Hidden_castle For you’ve been a safe place for me, a good place to hide. Psalm 59:16b (TM)

What was your favorite place to hide as a kid? I hid away in my room a lot. I always loved my room. When I was a boy my room could be a ballpark, a battlefield, an old west saloon, or the starship enterprise. As I became a teenager it was the place where I could truly be me. I had my music and my books and could shut out the world. I could cry there, dream there, rest there.

I think that’s what God wants to be for us. A place to be ourselves. A place where we are safe to share our full emotions: all of our fears, our anger, our joy, our silly thoughts, our rants, and our needs.

I’ve gotten word in the last day of two brothers in Christ who are going through significant life-pain. I’m praying for them today – that they can, in God, find a safe place to hide away.

  1. Strong God, I’m watching you do it,
I can always count on you—
    God, my dependable love.
I too have a brother who is in deep pain right now. My prayer is that this verse rings true for him today and in the days to come.
