The Only Thing That Really Matters

And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
2 John 1:6 (NIV)

When I listen to other followers of Jesus talking about their own lives and faith journeys, I often hear them wishing they had more spiritual discipline. More time in prayer, more quiet time with God, more reading, or more study are the things of which they wish they had more. I once wished for such things, and still do from time to time. The further I get in my own journey, however, the more I find that I simply desire more love; I want to experience it ever more deeply, and tangibly express it ever more generously.

Today, I want to love well and in greater measure than yesterday. If I don’t do that well, all the spiritual disciplines are wasted time anyway. No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m spiritually bankrupt without love.
