Labor Day Weekend 2010

It’s been a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

On Friday night, Wendy and I took our friends Mat and Anne to the I-Cubs game in Des Moines. It was a gorgeous night, other than the wind. Nevertheless, we persevered and watched the I-Cubs pull out a victory over Memphis. There were fireworks after the game, which only added to the fun. Unfortunately, the I-Cubs couldn’t pull out the 3 of 4 they needed this weekend to make the post season. There’s always next year.

Saturday was work day around the house. We continued to work on cleaning out the basement, which had been flooded in the heavy summer rains. We ripped out carpet and walls before heading to the dump with a pick-up load full of what we’d ripped out. The afternoon was yard work (for me) and house work (for Wendy). We got to relax in the evening when our friend Ann came over for grilled salmon, a glass of wine, and a long evening of wonderful conversation. At 11:00 Ann said she was leaving “three hours earlier than normal” so we could get to bed. 🙂

I played bass for worship Sunday morning. We cleaned up the house after church, packed up, and headed to the lake. After a year of construction, the Playhouse is finished and the appraisal is scheduled for Tuesday. So, Wendy and spent Labor Day cleaning up the Playhouse and yard in preparation for the appraisal. We took some time to relax and watch the Cubs while we ate lunch at Chili’s. I think we’re ready for the appraisal. I took the picture above just an hour or so ago. It looks good.

It’s a gorgeous evening. We’re getting ready to have Pella bologna steaks and settle in for a movie and/or a good book. It’s strange to be at the Playhouse without a long list of urgent items on the to-do list. Finally, we can relax and enjoy it!

  1. Tom & Wendy,

The playhouse looks glorious. Wow! Impressive picture. I think a glass of wine, a lawn chair facing the house from the dock, a few cigars, and we’ve got a celebration. Good job. Looking forward to a trial run:)
