It is rare to have both girls home on Father’s Day. When they were younger they were constantly jetting off during the summer on mission trips on the other side of the globe. Then came college and marriage and life paths that wound away from home. C’est la vie.
It was a total joy, however, to have both Taylor and Madison with us yesterday. The two drove to Pella from Des Moines in the morning to join us for 9:30 worship in the auditorium. They made a brief run to Osky after church and we all left for Des Moines at noon. We met Kev & Beck and the kids at the Iowa Cubs game. For the first time in my life I bought lunch for the family and ordered four hot dogs and four beers. My, how they’ve grown.
It was a beautiful day for a ball game and we sat on the first base side in the shade. The park was packed and we ran into several friends from Pella. The I-Cubs dropped the game to the Omaha Storm Chasers 3-1, even though they had a chance to tie it up in the bottom of the ninth, not that any of us paid that much attention to the game 🙂
After the game the four of us headed to Grandpa and Grandma’s to wish Grandpa a Happy Father’s Day and to meet up with the Keithley cousins. The girls hung out with Grandpa and Grandma and ordered a pizza. Wendy and I slipped over to Kev & Beck’s for our monthly evening together which was enjoyed on their porch. A perfect evening to cap off a perfect Father’s Day.
