Last Thursday morning I posted a scan of all my old junior high and high school photo IDs. WordPress, the host of my blog (a millions of others) picked up the post and placed it on their home page along with several others. They call it “Freshly Pressed” and it’s a way that they highlight posts that they think others will like.
So, my humble little blog which averages about 20-30 “hits” a day with an average of one comment a day (thanks, Kevin) suddenly started getting hits and comments from all over the world (India, Russia, Ghana, Britain, etc.). In fact, the post that WordPress “freshly pressed” got over 2300 hits and those who visited ended up clicking around and checking out my blog and other posts. So I had about 3200 total hits on Thursday and Friday.
Thanks to WordPress for choosing my post out of the zillion other posts they could have highlighted.
Thanks to those who took the time to comment and those who chose to subscribe.
I’m back to my humble number of daily hits, which is cool. After all, I’m just a poor, wayfaring stranger. But, the experience of being Freshly Pressed reminds me that along the journey you never know where the road might surprisingly lead or where you might suddenly find yourself.
Press on.
