Finish what you started in me, God. Your love is eternal—don't quit on me now. Psalm 138:8 (MSG)
I'm looking forward to my 25 Year High School Reunion this weekend. I'm having some of those "old man" thoughts about "where has all the time gone?" It's the paradox of feeling close and distant at the same time. Feels like it was yesterday and yet it seems long, long ago in a galaxy far, far, away.
It's been great to connect with classmates through Facebook and other social media outlets. How cool to see where life's journey has taken people. How sobering to think of those whose sojourn has already ended. How fascinating to think of they way I perceived people in that bubbling social cauldron of public high school.
I'd daresay there's few us who don't look back 25 years and cringe a bit at the awkwardness of our youth. I shake my head when I think of myself back then — the mixed bag of raging hormones, social prejudices, pride and the overwhelming ignorance about myself. All that adolescent mess in a pink Izod polo with the collar turned up.
Thank you, God, for where I've been. Thank you, God, for where I am. Thank you, God, that I'm still in process.
Thanks for your promise to finish what you started in me.
