Chapter-a-Day Psalm 91

Covered. You who sit down in the High God's presence, spend the night in Shaddai's shadow, Say this: "God, you're my refuge. I trust in you and I'm safe!" That's right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you— under them you're perfectly safe. Psalm 91:1-4 (MSG)

Wendy and I approached the prayer team at church yesterday as the final worship songs blasted through the auditorium. There are always members of the prayer team standing to the side of the auditorium to offer prayer for anyone who needs it. The two women welcomed us warmly and, at Wendy's request, I shared with them her need. The women laid their hands on Wendy and began to pray. Holy Spirit suddeny descended and the Presence enveloped us.

Simultaneously, I felt God bidding me to cover Wendy and the women. I don't know how else to describe it. What they were saying and what the women were praying were not my concern. It was as if it was hidden from me. My job was not to pray with them, my job was to pray over them. I was to shield them with my prayers. My focus was to be completely on God and to shower Him with praise.

"Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty who was, and is, and is to come. The whole Earth is full of His glory."

As I read Psalm 91 this morning, and read of God's refuge and protection, I harkened back to those moments. God whispered to my spirit and reminded me that He covers me the same way he asked me to cover Wendy and the women yesterday. When I am huddled in need, when I am broken, when I am fallen on my knees, when I am in fear and doubt, He covers me. His arms stretch around me and over me. In Him I find refuge.

God, let me feel the shadow of your presence over me today.

  1. 14-16 “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God,
“I’ll get you out of any trouble.
What an encouragement this morning! If we strive to please God first and not people, we are safe and secure. My youngest has been going through the stage of being afraid of her dark room at bedtime. We have been telling her that Jesus is right beside her and she can ask Him to protect her anytime. That gives her the peace that she needs to get good rest. I can feel the same security and cry out to my Daddy when times are rough
