devastated I was by their betrayals, by their voracious lust for

When it comes to reading the Old Testament, it’s helpful to know how the piece fits into the whole. It’s good to know the whole story. Ezekiel’s message was exactly what happened. Jerusalem was destroyed and most of the people killed (read Lamentations), a few escaped by being taken into slavery (read Daniel) where they grieved and longed for their home (read Psalm 137), and eventually they returned (read Nehemiah). In other words, God gave Ezekiel a message and it happened just as he said.
