It’s been a long week of rehearsals for the Tulip Time show, The Dominie’s Wife. Wendy and I have been at the theater every night. But it’s been fun to feel things begin to flow. There’s something that happens in the run of a show – when the blocking is done and the actors begin to let the characters emerge on stage. You stop thinking about lines and where you’re going. You just begin to feel the moment to be that character. I might get in trouble with the anti-Harry Potter crowd here, but the only word I can use to describe it is magical.

Wendy and I watched Remember the Titans last weekend. There’s a scene where Denzel Washington’s character walks out on the football field, takes a deep breath and says "this is my sanctuary." I get the same feeling being in the theatre, walking around back stage, standing in the shadows waiting for the bright lights to hit you when you walk out. My spirit feels at home there.
