Top Five Tuesday: Distractions

Speaking of distractions, here are the top five outlets feeding my appetite for distraction:

  1. Facebook: Who’s doing what, where, with whom right now?
  2. Twitter: #losingmyselfin140characters
  3. MLB At Bat: All things baseball and the Cubs at any moment.
  4. Photos: So many photos, so little time.
  5. PSVita: Inside the man is a boy who loves his games.

Look straight ahead,
and fix your eyes on what lies before you.
Proverbs 4:25 (NLT)

Life offers so many distractions, and they aren’t getting any less with time. Forgive an old man’s reminscence, but when I was a young the television in our home had four channels. When the president gave a speech you might as well go find some legos to play with because he would be on all four channels at the same time. Music came on 10 inch vinyl discs played on the family stereo cabinet. If you wanted a book you went to the library.

Today, I have more television, music, and book options on the phone in my pocket than I had in our entire household at any one time growing up. If I want to be distracted, all I have to do is turn on my phone.

In the midst of so many distractions, it’s worthwhile asking myself: “On what am I truly focused?”
