Chapter-a-Day Exodus 40

Working_handsMoses finished the work. The Cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the Glory of God filled The Dwelling. Exodus 40:33-34 (TM)

Call, response, obedience, work, blessing.

There is a natural order to things, and we see it woven throughout God’s message to us and in the stories of the Old Testament. God called Moses to build the Tent of Meeting. Moses responds. He finishes the work and God’s presence fills The Dwelling. Call, response, obedience, work, blessing.

So often we want to rush right to God blessing us, and often we do so wanting that blessing to be at our calling – not God’s. Yet, when we are open to His calling, respond in obedience, and finish the work – He blesses us more richly than we could ever have anticipated.

Don’t shortcut God. The Blessing comes when the work is done.

  1. 16 Moses did everything God commanded. He did it all.
The first half of the chapter lays out what God wanted Moses to do. The second half repeats and lists that Moses did everything exactly how God asked. If you or I listed the things God calls us to do daily, would we be able to re-list the accomplished tasks? I doubt it. First I’m not sure we always hear all of God’s promptings. Second I know that often I am not faithful to do what I am asked. This chapter was a good reminder for me today to be a better listener for God’s call.
