Chapter-a-Day Psalm 60

Rough_roadHeal the breaks! Everything’s coming apart at the seams. Psalm 60:2b (TM)

There’s a scene in the movie "While You Were Sleeping" in which a father, played by Peter Boyle is talking to his son, played by Bill Pullman. To paraphrase, the father contentedly says "You strive and struggle your whole life and then you finally get a brief moment when everything comes together – when everyone is happy."

Then Bill Pullman, who has been waiting to tell his father that he doesn’t want to be part of the family business looks at his dad and says, "Pops, this isn’t that moment."

There are certain themes the are woven throughout scripture. One of those themes is why life sometimes "comes apart at the seams". We all know that it does. It would be nice if life was always rosy and everything worked out just the way we wanted. But it doesn’t.

David is the God-anointed king of Israel, yet he’s living in a cave surrounded by his enemies and struggling for survival. Yet, in the midst of his troubles he continues to remember that God is faithful and will see  him through.

God didn’t promise us an easy road. In fact, He promised just the opposite. Yet, He promised to be right there with us on the journey, and He promised to ultimately lead us to an amazing place if we will only choose to follow.
