Chapter-a-Day Psalm 30

Volume All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God! Psalm 30:4 (TM)

Last year our church hosted a national get-together for our denomination. Wendy and I were asked to help video-tape the opening service, so I found myself behind the camera observing the proceedings. Our church’s denomination are not the most demonstrative lot. The emotional output among a bunch of Dutchmen usually doesn’t improve with numbers.

As the group began to sing, however – everyone on the tech crew were suddenly amazed. We’ve got great musical worship on Sundays, but I’ve never heard singing in our church like I heard that night. I’ve never heard so many voices singing their "hearts out" in our church. On the headphones the other camera persons were commenting, "I wish you’d hear singing like this on Sunday morning."

I’ve remembered that night on Sunday mornings as I’ve worshiped. That service was a reminder to me to sing my heart out. Since then, I’ve raised the volume knob on my own voice to "11".

  1. 6-7 When things were going great
I crowed, “I’ve got it made.
    I’m God’s favorite.
He made me king of the mountain.”
Then you looked the other way
    and I fell to pieces.
How true is this? I’m guilty many times over. God help me to remain humble in times of success.
